I Caught A Cold And Became A Stormbound Addict

Don’t do what I did. I am begging you. Heed my sage advice. Here’s my sad tale. I had a cold for four days. Forcing me to cancel guitar lessons for three days. Leading to the daunting future tasks of making up those lessons and shaving off five or six days worth of mostly gray beard. But I am past the worst of it and feeling better.

The real problem is, I fell victim to technology. In days gone by when I had a bad cold, I would mostly sleep, read, or watch television. Now that I have portable “electronic devices” my options are far greater. Knowing I needed to avoid Facebook for sanity’s sake, I decided to try some new mobile video games. The “Game Of The Day” on the Apple iOS App Store was Stormbound. A strategy game. It was free, so I decided to try it.

Mistake. I am now fully addicted and am seeking a support group. If you value your life and don’t want to end up on the couch in sweatpants, unbathed, eating junk food, and telling yourself “just one more game”, do not download this game. If you are old enough to remember the computer game Archon, which was sort of like chess except that the pieces actually fought, it is like a mix of that - with way better graphics (sort of like the mobile game Monument - that one is alright to play. It has an ending.) and far more pieces (cards) to play. It is different every time you play, and you play against real opponents.
