TC Electronic Hall Of Fame Mini Reverb Review

TC Electronic Hall Of Fame Mini Reverb Review

Reverb is one of those effects that works well both subtle and extreme. Sometimes you might want to just add a little space to your guitar signal, and sometimes you might want to play “surf” music or create ambient washes. So you might wonder if a mini reverb pedal can accomplish both subtle and extreme effects well. In the case of the TC Electronics HOF (Hall Of Fame) Mini pedal, the answer is yes. Thanks to its TonePrint technology.

TC reverbs have long been popular due to their lush, pristine tone. And now you can access many of the best of them in an extremely compact form. The TC Mini pedals are very compact. They will easily fit in the palm of your hand. So they won’t take up much space on a pedalboard. But they don’t skimp on tone and are true bypass.

The HOF Reverb Mini comes loaded by default with a very nice Hall reverb. Thus the “Hall Of Fame” moniker. Many will be happy with this reverb and need to look no further. All you need to do is dial in the amount of reverb you want using the single knob and you’re done. But this little pedal is capable of so much more thanks to TonePrint technology.

The TonePrint app interface.

TonePrint allows you to load in other reverb “TonePrints” or presets. You can select from dozens of reverbs. Some made by TC Electronic and some created with the assistance of famous guitar players. They cover the gamut of applications for reverb, and types, including spring, hall, room, plate, and cathedral. There are extreme and subtle and everything in between. Toneprints can be accessed and downloaded using an app on your smartphone. Then you hold your phone near your guitar pickup to load them into your pedal. You have to experiment a little to find the correct distance to hold it from your pickup, but once you do, it works well. You can also download TonePrint software to your computer and create your own unique TonePrints if you desire.

The TonePrint app is fairly easy to use but requires a lot of scrolling. And it does a long check for new content each time you launch it. Forcing you to wait while it checks online for new TonePrints. I would prefer if checking for updates was an option, or much faster.

My goal for this pedal was to use it on a compact pedalboard for jazz. I was looking for a nice, smooth reverb suitable for jazz guitar. The default Hall reverb was quite good and I would have been happy using it, but of course, I wanted to try others to see if I could find an even better one. I tried all the available TonePrints and there were some good contenders, but the one I settled on was called “Arizona Sunrise Reverb” by Johnny A. It is really nice for jazz. Thanks, Johnny.

If you only need one reverb at a time and space is at a premium on your pedalboard, the Hall Of Fame Reverb Mini is an excellent choice. The reverbs all sound great. And thanks to TonePrint technology I find it hard to imagine that you won’t find several great sounding reverbs to use. And if not, you could create your own. Highly recommended.
