Hi.

I’m a musician, writer, and comic artist. Welcome to my website.

Songs Worth Learning - 4

Songs Worth Learning - 4

There are certain songs that I think every guitar player should try to learn. Either they have cool guitar parts, or they will expand your playing skills, or they will introduce you to a style of music you may not have played before. I am going to recommend songs in several styles of music and explain why I think they should be added to your “play list.” Obviously, these are my choices, and no doubt, some will disagree with my choices. But each song has something good to offer so I think they are worth learning.

This will eventually be a huge list so I am going to post them one song at a time in no particular order. Take your time and enjoy each one.

Wipe Out - The Surfaris

Surfaris - Wipe Out

Back in the 1960s when instrumental rock was twangy and cool, Wipeout ruled. Wipeout is a surf music classic that has been featured in dozens of films and countless covers by other bands. It has catchy riff/melody and only three chords. It is a great alternate picking workout, and you get to practice chord stabs. Which is good practice for not playing 3 1/2 beats per measures. Not playing can be just as effective as playing and often better than playing too much. Drummers love this song too, making it more likely to be requested. Grab a Strat, Tele, or some other Fender and a clean amp, turn the reverb all the way up and get busy having fun. Bonus points if you can do the maniacal falsetto laugh in the beginning.
